About Farmworkers Self-Help, Inc.

Farmworkers Self-Help, Inc. (FSH) is located in Dade City, Florida. The organization was incorporated as a 501 (C) (3) in 1982. FSH works with immigrant Mexican farmworkers, Mexican-American farmworkers, and former farmworkers to formulate solutions to the problems encountered by this population. the organization also works with other poverty-entrapped and oppressed groups in our community. The organization is unique in its holistic blend of organizing and direct service. The organization's focus on social justice began in response to the abusive tactics of the U.S. Border Patrol toward community members of Mexican Descent. FSH was also instrumental in the 1993 enactment and the 2003 reenactment of the Farmworker Right-To-Know Bill as well as the 2005 enactment of the Transportation Safety Bill.  We continue to address discriminatory/oppressive policies and practices that adversely affect our community and we are always in preparation for the next legislative session as new laws are still needed. The direct services arm came about because of a freeze that left hundreds of families stranded in the area with no work and no money to sustain them. FSH has since had an emergence of other service areas to address the great needs. The branch continues to be necessary due to large numbers of seasonal migrating workers who pass through our community as week as the high rate of poverty for the farmworkers who make their home here.
